Workforce Housing Project: Building Hope, One Home at a Time
Inspired by the hardworking Toyo Tires workforce and the community that believes every family deserves a place to call home.
Across the nation, the dream of homeownership is slipping further out of reach for working families. Rising home prices, limited inventory, and high rental costs have left many hardworking individuals wondering if they will ever have the chance to own a home of their own. This project began with one powerful moment: Bradley Barnett of Octave TalMar Development, LLC visited Toyo Tires and attended a First-Time Homebuyers Educational Workshop for employees. As he watched the faces of dedicated workers change when they learned that homes in their price range were nearly impossible to find, he saw more than a housing gap—he saw families, dreams, and futures waiting for someone to care enough to act.
That moment became the heart of a mission. In White, Georgia and the greater Bartow County area—where manufacturing represents a significant part of the local workforce—Bradley was inspired to help create a path to homeownership for the very people who build, serve, and strengthen the community every day. These are employees who work hard, raise families, support local businesses, and contribute to the economic engine of the region. Yet too many are being priced out of the communities they help sustain.
What makes this story remarkable is not only the scale of the vision, but the heart behind it. The City of Cartersville and surrounding community partners are coming together in a remarkable way—suppliers, manufacturers, financial partners, real estate professionals, and local leaders are stepping forward to help make 182 homes possible. Materials such as concrete, electrical components, trusses, windows, doors, and roofing have already been supported through the generosity and collaboration of companies willing to do more than business as usual. They are choosing to invest in people.
This housing effort is different because it is being built by the community, for the community. While many affordable housing programs are tied to strict income limits, this project recognizes a growing reality: many middle-income working families earn too much to qualify for assistance, yet not enough to afford the average home prices in today’s market. With homes averaging around $350,000, many employees are left paying high rents while the possibility of ownership feels further and further away. This project offers something deeply meaningful—a practical, compassionate pathway for families who may otherwise never have one.
No one organization can solve this challenge alone. The affordability of these homes depends on the collective compassion of local suppliers, financial partners, Realtors, real estate agents, employers, and community advocates who understand that a home is more than four walls—it is stability, dignity, safety, and hope. After meeting with Jeanne Ruud at Toyo Tires and seeing firsthand the needs of the workforce, Bradley’s commitment grew even stronger. Together, this partnership is turning concern into action and action into keys that will one day be placed in the hands of families who have waited for this chance.
A special and heartfelt thank you goes to every supporter who is helping make this dream possible. Once the final cost to build is complete, Jeanne Ruud will help facilitate a media campaign to honor the companies, organizations, and individuals who stood behind this cause. The goal is to share a story that moves people—not just because homes are being built, but because lives are being changed. There will be tears, gratitude, and unforgettable moments as families step into homes they may have once thought were out of reach. And those tears will be the kind that remind us what community is truly capable of when it chooses to care.
